Zora
Free-to-mint protocol that turned NFTs into a social medium on Base.
Standard
ERC-1155
Mint fee
~0.000777 ETH (Zora share)
The protocol that changed NFTs
Zora popularized the "free-to-mint, open-edition" pattern. Creators publish a piece, anyone can mint a copy for the gas + a tiny Zora fee, and the creator earns split rewards. It made NFTs feel like Instagram posts.
Mint rewards
When someone mints, the fee splits between: creator, "first minter" (referral), Zora, and the protocol. This created a "share to earn" economy — creators amplify because referrers get paid.
- Creator: largest share
- First minter / referrer: earns on each mint via their link
- Zora: protocol fee
Zora coin moments
Zora also launched its own L2 (Zora Network) and integrates with Farcaster — casts can be minted as Zora collectibles directly from feed.
